Description

The Five Wings Art Council is one of eleven Regional Arts Councils in Minnesota that provide grants and services to nonprofit arts organizations and individual artists. We facilitate and encourage local arts development through the funding of arts projects and services to artists and organizations. Grant programs include: Community Arts Access Project Grant: Matching grants up to $5,000 (25% cash match) are available to nonprofit organizations (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) to either produce or sponsor an arts activity. Grants are awarded based upon artistic quality, need for the project and ability of the applicant to carry out the activity. Note: Community Education departments should use this application (not the Schools Arts Project application). School Arts Project Grants: Non-Matching Grants up to $5,000 are available to public schools (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) to supplement the arts education already being provided to area students. Project examples include, but are not limited to artist residencies, arts education field trips, and other non-curriculum arts activities. Note: Community Education departments should use the Community Arts Access Project Grant application. General Operating Support: Unrestricted operating and capital grants up to $2,500 are available to established nonprofit arts organizations (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) to help strengthen and stabilize their operations, allowing them to provide the best possible service to the arts. Grants are awarded based upon artistic quality, commitment to community access, and current stability of the organization. Please call the Five Wings Arts Council office before applying. Project Incorporation Support: Provides financial support and technical assistance to community arts groups (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) as they pursue IRS 501 (c) 3 charitable status. Student Artist Mentor Grant: Scholarships are awarded to rural high school students (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) in grades 9-12 who demonstrate high motivation to work in the arts. The program serves to supplement the arts education in our region's schools by providing the opportunity to study a chosen art field with a regional practicing artist. Staff & Board Professional Development: Opportunities for arts advocates (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) to increase organizational and leadership skills. Small Community Arts Grants: One-time grants available to arts organizations, community groups, and schools (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) to sponsor an arts activity. Individual Artist Grants: Based on the tradesperson's model, grants in the individual artist program will be Apprentice, Artisan and Master levels. Apprentice grants of up to $1000 and Artisan grants of up to $2,000 are available to individual artists (residents of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) and are designed to help strengthen their careers by taking advantage of arts related learning experiences and career-making opportunities. Artists (at least 18 years of age) working in the visual, literary, or performing arts, who are requesting support for short term opportunities (not routine work in progress) are eligible to apply. Master level artists will be identified by a nomination process and be awarded $5000 if determined worthy by the review board. Annual deadline of March 15. Community Public Art Partnerships: Planning grants are available to local (of Todd, Morrison, Wadena, Cass and Crow Wing Counties of Minnesota) artists and communities for research and development of potential public art installations or activities. Project grants allow for completion of a project.
