- Updated 5 to 12 year old play structure;
- New benches and picnic tables added to existing picnic area; and,
- A small entrance area with Michael Joyce Memorial featuring benches, fencing, and plantings.

About Michael Joyce
Husband, father, community activist, and tireless public servant, Michael Joyce was an ordinary Irish-born man with an extraordinary heart. To the thousands of immigrants he helped along the road to citizenship and naturalization, Mike was a mentor, a trusted advisor, and a faithful friend. He treated everyone with compassion, respect, and dignity.

Michael Joyce never asked a person’s race, color, or creed. He would only ask, “How can I help?” He taught us the true meaning of life—people helping people.

Thanks to the tireless efforts of Senator Jack Hart, Representative Brian Wallace, and Representative Martin Walsh, Governor Deval Patrick signed Senate Bill 2435 on June 30, 2010, designating the playground at the Marine Park in South Boston—The Michael Joyce Memorial Playground.

We would like to thank our sponsors for supporting our event and also the Michael Joyce Memorial Playground.
