Burke Mountain is the engine that drives the local economy in this beautiful, rural part of Vermont where jobs and economic opportunity are hard to come by.
You may have read about it in the New York Times or seen the series on the PBS News Hour: 180 workers at Burke Mountain in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom lost their jobs due to what the Securities and Exchange Commission calls a $200 million Ponzi scheme. To make things right, we started Friends of Burke Mountain, a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. We have already helped convince the Mountain’s Court-appointed receiver to reopen the Mountain and the beautiful new hotel at its base, generating a total of 250 jobs. Now, we are working to transform Burke Mountain by participating in a campaign to have Burke designated as one of three elite ski racing and training centers in the U.S. Burke Mountain Academy, our partner, projects that the center will create 450 jobs in the community and generate up to $750,000 in economic activity in the community during a single race week.
We invite you to make a tax deductible donation to Friends of Burke Mountain to help make a real difference in the lives of our friends and neighbors.
