The Academy of Saint Cecilia Youth Orchestra held its first practice September 11, 2001, a fateful day in our history. About 20 young musicians gathered, played their instruments, and reflected on the day's events. Music helped to ease the pain, and somewhere in that practice a youth orchestra was born. Now, 13 years and hundreds of rehearsals, musicians, and concerts later, ASCYO is a vital organization with over 150 young musicians. ASCYO includes 6 different orchestras and ensembles, from a beginning band to a full orchestra. Thanks to the efforts of our financial supporters, volunteers, and parents, young musicians come to us from all walks of life with a single, common purpose; to play their instruments and make beautiful music to be shared with the community.
Visit our website at www.ascyo.org to read more and listen to a sample of the beautiful music these young musicians make together.
There is no better feeling than watching budding students, uncertain of their abilities, grow into mature musicians who have developed the confidence to walk onto the stage and play a senior solo with a full orchestra. These are experiences that help build a foundation that will support them the rest of their lives wherever they go, whatever they do.
ASCYO is supported through tuition from the students and generous contributions from those who think music and performance is important to the development of well-rounded adults.
Our fundraiser goal is to raise the support needed to finance our current concert series. Each semester, in December and May, the ASCYO ensembles perform in 4 concert venues, from the Weinberg Center for the Performing Arts in Frederick, Maryland, to Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, Maryland. The costs of the venues, and other concert expenses are nearly $10,000 per semester. We need your help in order for ASCYO to continue our mission of serving the community.
We are a registered non-profit organization so your contributions to ASCYO are tax deductable to the extent permitted by the IRS. We will gratefully provide a tax receipt to all donors who provide a mailing address.
Thank you for your support and your willingness to help keep the music alive.
